Le "Libro del caballero Zifar", premier récit chevaleresque castillan

International audienceAfter a presentation of the Libro del Caballero Zifar, its production context and the characteristics of its distribution, this article focuses on this work as the first romance of chivalric adventures in Castilian. The fact that this book is a proto-romance of Chivalry, the starting point of a long textual tradition culminating in Don Quixote, makes it what the author calls a “transitional romance” straddling the discursive forms in vogue in Castile in the 13th and 14th centuries –such as hagiographic literature and didactic literature based on exampla and sententiae– and new narrative forms freshly adapted from French models directly linked to chivalric literature of the Arthurian type. Thus, Zifar is a work that is certainly hybrid but which opens the door to a totally new and meaningful way of making literature.Key words: Libro del Caballero Zifar, chivalric romance, hagiographic literature, didactic literature, transitional romanceAprès une présentation du Libro del Caballero Zifar, de son contexte de production et des caractéristiques de sa diffusion, cet article étudie cette œuvre en tant que premier roman d’aventures chevaleresques en langue castillane. Le caractère de proto-roman chevaleresque, point de départ d’une longue tradition textuelle qui culmine avec Don Quichotte, fait qu’il s’agit de ce que l’auteur appelle un «roman de transition» à cheval entre les formes discursives en vogue dans la Castille des XIIIe et XIVe siècles – comme la littérature hagiographique et la littérature didactique fondée sur les exemples et les sentences – et de nouvelles formes narratives fraîchement adaptées de modèles français en lien direct avec la littérature chevaleresque de type arthurien.
